Trump Threatens Fresh Strikes on Iran as US Weighs Expanded Military Action

US President Donald Trump has issued another strong warning to Iran, saying the United States is prepared to strike the country “very hard” as the conflict between the two sides continues to intensify.
Speaking during a cabinet meeting at Camp David, Trump said Iran would eventually be forced to give in under sustained military pressure. He accused Tehran of repeatedly breaking its commitments during negotiations and said his confidence in diplomatic talks was fading.

“We’ll be hitting them very hard,” Trump said, adding that Iran continues to seek talks but has failed to honour previous commitments. He also claimed that Iran launched missiles while negotiations were underway, saying the attacks further undermined trust between the two countries.
According to multiple reports, the United States is considering a new phase of military operations that could begin as early as this weekend. The proposed campaign is expected to target Iran’s energy infrastructure, including oil refineries and power plants, with close coordination between Washington and Israel.
Trump has repeatedly warned that Iran’s critical infrastructure could be targeted if attacks continue against international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. While no final approval for the reported operation has been publicly confirmed, discussions between US and Israeli officials are said to be ongoing.
The renewed military planning comes only days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met President Trump and senior US defence officials in Washington to discuss the regional security situation.
Responding to questions about the conflict, Trump insisted that Iran’s military capabilities had been significantly weakened during the fighting. He said the United States would continue military operations if necessary and reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.
The US president also signalled support for expanding military action, saying America had already “gone big” and remained focused on achieving victory. He further announced plans for a major increase in defence spending, describing it as an unprecedented investment in the US armed forces.
Meanwhile, regional tensions rose further after a commercial tanker operating off the coast of Oman reported being struck by an unidentified projectile. The incident caused damage to the vessel’s engine room but no injuries were reported. The attack occurred near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes.
Separately, Italy’s Defence Minister Guido Crosetto defended his government’s deployment of military personnel to the Gulf region after opposition parties questioned the legality of the mission. Italy has deployed around 400 Air Force personnel to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain since March, with the government maintaining that the mission falls within its approved security framework.
