Shahzad Roy’s ‘Wall of Secrets’ Gives Voice To Children’s Hidden Struggles

Pakistani singer, social activist and education reform advocate Shahzad Roy is receiving widespread praise after promoting a unique initiative called the “Wall of Secrets,” designed to help children express thoughts and emotions they may be unable or afraid to share openly.

In a recently shared video, Shahzad explained why he believes every school should have a Wall of Secrets, describing it as a powerful way to understand the challenges many students face in silence.

Drawing on years of experience working with schools, Shahzad said children often struggle to discuss sensitive issues such as emotional distress, bullying, abuse and other personal concerns. While they may hesitate to speak directly, many find it easier to communicate through drawings, artwork and anonymous messages.

“Art is a very powerful medium,” Shahzad said. “Many children cannot properly express what they are going through, and sometimes they feel too shy or afraid to speak. Through the Wall of Secrets, they can tell us what is in their hearts.”

To highlight the impact of the initiative, Shahzad shared several anonymous messages and artworks displayed on the wall.

One child wrote, “I hate my Qaari Sahab.”

Another revealed emotional pain, saying, “I am broken from inside by the judgment of people.”

A different student expressed feelings of loneliness, writing, “I don’t have any best friend because I don’t know how to make a best friend.”

One child also shared discomfort with family gatherings through artwork accompanied by the message, “I don’t like weddings. I hate this.”

According to Shahzad, these anonymous messages offer valuable insight into children’s emotional well-being and help schools identify concerns that might otherwise remain hidden.

He also revealed that schools participating in the initiative have installed suggestion and concern boxes, allowing students to confidentially share their thoughts, worries and experiences with school management.
