Saudi Arabia launches major ‘food security initiative’ in Pakistan for 2025

In a significant gesture of support, Saudi Arabia has launched a comprehensive food security initiative in Pakistan for 2024-2025, aimed at alleviating hunger and supporting vulnerable families across the country. The initiative, led by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), was unveiled during an event at the Saudi Embassy, with key officials from both nations in attendance.
Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, expressed profound gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their steadfast commitment to humanitarian causes. Praising KSrelief’s efforts as a “shining example of Islamic values,” the minister emphasized the initiative’s importance in addressing Pakistan’s food security challenges and aiding the underprivileged.

The project, executed in collaboration with Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), and other partners, will distribute 147,500 food packages between December 2024 and November 2025. Each package, weighing 95 kilograms and containing essential items like flour, cooking oil, sugar, and pulses, is designed to sustain a family for one month. The program is expected to benefit over 1 million individuals across all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Pakistan. “It is my pleasure to hand over these food packages as a gift to the brotherly people of Pakistan. This initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s dedication to alleviating global food insecurity,” he remarked.
Rana Tanveer Hussain noted that the initiative aligns with Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to combat poverty and malnutrition. He stressed the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, built on shared faith, culture, and mutual respect, and underscored how such initiatives strengthen bilateral relations. The minister also assured Saudi officials of Pakistan’s full cooperation in ensuring the aid reaches every corner of the country and every family in need.
