Sania Mirza Appointed Sports Ambassador for Dubai

In a significant recognition of her contributions to sports, former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has been appointed as the sports ambassador for Dubai by the Dubai Sports Council. The announcement, made on Wednesday, marks an important milestone for the 37-year-old athlete, celebrated globally for her achievements in tennis.

The Dubai Sports Council, established in 2005, oversees the sports sector in Dubai, aiming to foster physical activity within society, with a special focus on promoting sports among women and children. The council is also responsible for managing Dubai’s seven local sports clubs and developing initiatives to encourage an active lifestyle across the city.

Sania shared her excitement over the appointment on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the Dubai Sports Council. “Honoured and grateful to be a sports ambassador for Dubai! Thank you for this incredible opportunity Dubai Sports Council,” she wrote in her post, which quickly drew praise from fans and supporters around the world.

The event announcing her appointment saw attendance from several high-profile sports figures, including UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Supporters flooded Sania’s Instagram post with messages of congratulation, celebrating her achievement as a milestone for both her career and for South Asian athletes.

Sania Mirza, who retired from professional tennis following her final match at the Australian Open in 2023, has since focused on various endeavors, dedicating time to her family and son, Izhaan Mirza-Malik.
