• The request has been sent to the Federal Interior Ministry for approval.

The Punjab government has sought the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel across the province to strengthen security arrangements during Muharram and ensure the peaceful conduct of religious gatherings and processions.

According to official sources, the Punjab Home Department has formally approached the Federal Ministry of Interior, requesting military and paramilitary support during the holy month. The move follows recommendations from Punjab Police, which advised additional security measures to maintain law and order during Muharram.

Under the proposed plan, the provincial government has requested a total of 137 companies of security personnel for deployment in Punjab’s 39 districts. The request includes 61 companies of the Pakistan Army and 76 companies of Rangers to assist local law enforcement agencies.

Officials said the deployment is expected to cover the period from 1st Muharram to 11th Muharram, with personnel assigned according to the security requirements of individual districts.

The Home Department stated that the additional forces would help strengthen security around majalis, processions and other religious events held during Muharram. The deployment plan has been designed to support police and civil administration in maintaining peace and preventing any untoward incidents.

Authorities said coordination between Punjab Police, district administrations, Army and Rangers personnel would be ensured to provide a secure environment for mourners and participants throughout the province.

The request has now been forwarded to the Federal Interior Ministry, which will review and approve the deployment arrangements. Once approval is granted, Army and Rangers companies will be allocated to districts based on security assessments and operational needs identified by provincial authorities.
