Punjab Extends Ban on Outdoor Drone Flying Across Province for Another 30 Days

The Punjab government has extended the province-wide ban on flying drones in open spaces for another 30 days, citing security concerns and the need to protect public safety and property.
According to the Punjab Home Department, the restrictions have been imposed under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. Under the order, the use of drones in outdoor and open-air locations will remain prohibited across Punjab during the extended period.

However, limited use of small drones will be allowed inside halls and marquees during events. Organisers of such events will be responsible for ensuring that drones are operated safely and do not pose a risk to participants or property.
Intelligence agencies and law enforcement organisations have been exempted from the ban and will be permitted to operate drones as required for their official duties.
The government has also provided a mechanism for the use of drones for agricultural, irrigation and research purposes. Individuals or organisations seeking to operate drones for these activities will be required to obtain written permission from the Safe Drone Usage Committee established at the district level.
Once written approval is granted by the relevant committee, drone operations for the approved agricultural, irrigation or research purpose will be treated as exempt from the general prohibition.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department said maintaining public safety, protecting property and ensuring law and order remain among the provincial government’s top priorities.
The Home Department has directed the administration and police across Punjab to ensure strict implementation of the restrictions during the extended period.
