Pakistan IT exports rise 20pc, reach record $4.19bn

Pakistan’s information technology exports have registered a strong growth of 20% during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, reaching an all-time high of $4.19 billion between July and May, according to official data. This shows an increase of $710 million compared to the same period last year, reflecting continued momentum in the country’s digital economy.

Data released by the State Bank of Pakistan shows that IT exports stood at $373 million in May 2025. Although this figure was 12% lower compared to the previous month, it still recorded a 13% year-on-year increase, highlighting overall stability and sustained growth in the sector despite monthly fluctuations.

Analysts say the consistent rise in exports points to improving conditions in Pakistan’s technology-driven services industry. Growth has been supported by government-led tax incentives, better policy measures, and efforts to facilitate the IT ecosystem.

The expansion of freelancing, software development services, and export-oriented tech firms has also contributed significantly to the upward trend. The IT sector is increasingly emerging as a key pillar of Pakistan’s export base, helping diversify foreign earnings and strengthen economic resilience.
