Maryam Nawaz Urges Bilawal to Focus on Governance Instead of Allegations After AJK Polls

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has urged Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to focus on improving his party’s governance and political performance instead of making allegations following the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) local elections.
Reacting to the election results, Maryam congratulated PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and party workers on the party’s success in Mirpur Division. She described the outcome as a strong vote of confidence from the people and expressed gratitude to Allah for the victory.

The chief minister said the electoral success reflected the leadership’s vision and the dedication of PML-N workers, praising their efforts throughout the campaign.
Criticising the PPP’s election strategy, Maryam claimed the party relied on allegations rather than presenting a convincing governance record. She also alleged that the party’s public gatherings attracted limited public participation during the campaign.
Addressing Bilawal Bhutto directly, she advised him to strengthen his party’s narrative and improve its performance instead of targeting political opponents. According to Maryam, voters are increasingly judging parties based on their ability to deliver results rather than political rhetoric.
She further argued that despite governing Sindh for the past 17 years, the PPP had failed to showcase major development projects that could strengthen its case before voters.
Maryam maintained that the PML-N’s victory demonstrated public confidence in its governance model, highlighting initiatives such as the Kisan Card, road infrastructure projects and public welfare programs as key reasons behind the party’s electoral success.
The Punjab chief minister also said the people of Azad Kashmir were seeking better roads, improved healthcare services and development projects similar to those implemented in Punjab, adding that these issues influenced voters’ decisions.
Referring to the growing role of technology in politics, Maryam said the era of artificial intelligence demands evidence, transparency and performance rather than political accusations. She claimed that the electorate had already evaluated political parties based on their track record.
She further alleged that Bilawal focused his campaign on criticising senior political leaders despite, in her view, lacking a significant governance record to present to voters.
Commenting on post-election criticism, Maryam said allegations of rigging are often raised by parties dissatisfied with the outcome. She also claimed that videos allegedly showing PPP candidates involved in irregularities had circulated on social media.
