Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has strongly rejected Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s claim that the state decides who wins elections, saying it is the people—not the state—who determine election results.
Responding to Bilawal’s recent statement, Maryam Nawaz said the public alone has the authority to decide the outcome of elections through the power of their vote.

She reminded the PPP chairman that when the people of Gilgit-Baltistan voted in favour of his party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) accepted the result with an open heart and acknowledged the victory.
Maryam Nawaz further said that after the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, the Prime Minister of Pakistan invited Bilawal Bhutto and supported the PPP in forming its government, demonstrating respect for the public mandate.
She stressed that democratic principles require all political parties to accept the verdict of the people, regardless of whether the result is in their favour or not.
Her remarks came in response to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s allegation that the state had already decided that PML-N would win the recent elections, a claim Maryam Nawaz firmly rejected by insisting that electoral decisions rest solely with the people.
