Marvel’s Wolverine Gets September 15 Release Date, Extended Gameplay Revealed

After years of anticipation, Insomniac Games has officially unveiled a major new look at Marvel’s Wolverine, confirming that the PlayStation 5 exclusive will launch on September 15, 2026.
The announcement came during Sony’s June 2026 PlayStation State of Play showcase, where Insomniac opened the event with an extended gameplay demonstration that highlighted the game’s darker tone, brutal combat and story details.

Creative Director Marcus Smith introduced the gameplay sequence, which follows Logan as he hunts down the Reavers, a group of cybernetic mercenaries working under Bolivar Trask. The footage showcased Wolverine’s signature claws in action, delivering graphic and visceral combat that marks a significant tonal shift from Insomniac’s Spider-Man series.
According to Smith, the game takes place in a world where the X-Men have not yet formed. Logan is instead part of a mutant-protection group known as Team X, which finds itself facing a major crisis.
One of the biggest surprises was the appearance of Jean Grey, who joins Wolverine in battle against Trask’s forces. While her role in the story appears significant, Insomniac stopped short of confirming whether she will be a playable character.
The gameplay presentation also featured a high-speed motorcycle chase across rooftops and moving trucks, along with brief glimpses of Sabretooth and several additional enemy factions. Multiple Wolverine suits were also teased.
Insomniac revealed new details about the game’s mechanics, including Wolverine’s healing factor. Logan can be killed if his heart stops, but players can use adrenaline and rage mechanics to revive him. When critically injured, players must trigger his healing ability through gameplay actions to recover from severe damage.
Accessibility options will include a less-violent gameplay mode and the ability to disable blood effects entirely, giving players more control over the experience.
Marvel’s Wolverine will take players across several locations, including Madripoor, the Canadian wilderness and Tokyo. Insomniac describes the game as a global action thriller centered on mutants and their struggle for survival.
The Standard Edition is priced at $69.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition will cost $79.99 and include additional suits, claw variants and bonus technique points. Players who pre-order the game will receive Logan’s classic brown suit, reflective claws, a bonus ability point and four exclusive PlayStation avatars.
