Arshad Nadeem Secures Historic Gold for Pakistan at Paris Olympics 2024

In a historic moment for Pakistan, javelin ace Arshad Nadeem clinched the country’s first-ever individual gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. Nadeem’s extraordinary throw of 92.97 meters not only secured him the gold but also shattered the previous Olympic record held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen since the 2008 Beijing Games.

Nadeem’s gold medal marks a significant achievement for Pakistan, which had not seen an Olympic gold in any discipline for the past 40 years. The last Olympic medal for Pakistan came in 1992 when the national hockey team won bronze at the Barcelona Olympics.

The final javelin throw event saw intense competition, with India’s Neeraj Chopra, the defending gold medalist, securing silver with a throw of 89.45 meters. Grenada’s Anderson Peters claimed the bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters. The event was a testament to Nadeem’s prowess and determination, as his second attempt throw was sufficient to outdistance his competitors and set a new Olympic benchmark.

The victory elicited widespread jubilation across Pakistan, with the nation heaping praise on Nadeem. President Asif Ali Zardari lauded the athlete, stating, “Arshad Nadeem! You are the pride of the entire nation. The triumph of Nadeem is the victory of the entire nation.” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, declaring, “History made. Pakistan’s first Olympic men’s javelin champion, Arshad Nadeem, brings home a historic gold medal at Paris 2024! You’ve made the whole nation proud, young man.”

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted Nadeem’s exceptional performance, saying, “Arshad Nadeem has won not only the gold medal but the nation’s heart.” The Sindh government, represented by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, announced a cash award of Rs50 million for Nadeem in recognition of his record-setting throw.

The Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, praised Nadeem’s dedication and hard work, stating, “The whole nation is proud of you for the historic success. Winning an Olympic gold medal and setting a new record is the result of your hard work, dedication, and commitment.” Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), also congratulated Nadeem, noting his achievement as a testament to the talent within Pakistan’s youth.

Nadeem’s family, particularly his mother, expressed immense pride and joy. She revealed that she had prayed fervently for her son’s success, and the nation’s collective prayers were answered with this historic victory.
