AJK Election Campaign Ends, Polling for Second Phase to Be Held Tomorrow

- Election campaign for the second phase of AJK elections has officially concluded.

The election campaign for the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections has officially ended, with polling scheduled to take place tomorrow after the Election Commission completed all necessary preparations.
Voting will be conducted across 21 constituencies, including nine seats in the Muzaffarabad Division and 12 constituencies reserved for Kashmiri refugees residing in different parts of Pakistan. More than 1.2 million registered voters are expected to participate in the electoral process.

According to the Election Commission, 208 candidates are contesting in the Muzaffarabad Division, while 143 candidates are in the race for the refugee constituencies. Political observers expect a closely fought contest, particularly between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Extensive security arrangements have also been put in place to ensure peaceful polling. The Election Commission said eight police personnel will be deployed at highly sensitive polling stations, six at sensitive polling stations and four officers at normal polling stations.
Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called for transparent handling of complaints related to the first phase of the elections. In a statement shared on X, he urged the authorities to hold open hearings into all allegations of electoral irregularities, saying the credibility of the election process depends on fairness, transparency and impartiality.
With campaigning now over, candidates and political parties have entered the mandatory silence period ahead of polling, as voters prepare to elect their representatives in the second and final phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections.
