PCB to Pay Development Contract Players Rs10 Lakh Per Month, Says Aqib Javed

• Players selected for PCB’s D-category development contracts will receive Rs10 lakh per month.

• The contract category will include 16 to 20 emerging cricketers from Pakistan Shaheens and other development pathways.

• Aqib Javed says players who consistently perform in four-day cricket should be prioritised for Test selection.

PCB Director of High Performance Aqib Javed has announced that players selected for the newly introduced development contracts will receive a monthly stipend of Rs10 lakh.

Aqib said the D-category development contract is a key initiative aimed at supporting emerging talent, with 16 to 20 young cricketers from Pakistan Shaheens and other development pathways expected to be included.

Speaking about fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi’s Test future, Aqib stressed that players cannot focus exclusively on T20 cricket throughout the year and then immediately adapt to the demands of red-ball cricket.

He noted that bowlers accustomed to delivering four overs in T20 matches cannot automatically be expected to bowl 20 to 25 overs in Test cricket, particularly at a time when ODI cricket is played less frequently.

Aqib added that players who consistently perform in four-day domestic cricket and demonstrate a stronger commitment to the longer format should be prioritised for Test selection.
