PCB Rejects Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy 2025, Maintains Firm Stance on Hosting Rights

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly dismissed the prospect of a “hybrid model” for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in response to India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. The PCB conveyed its stance to the International Cricket Council (ICC) following directives from the Pakistani government, underscoring its position on Pakistan’s exclusive hosting rights.

In a formal letter to the ICC, the PCB requested clarification on India’s refusal to participate, emphasizing that Pakistan will not agree to play matches against India at any alternative venue should India refuse to compete in Pakistan. This decision reiterates Pakistan’s commitment to hosting the entire tournament within its borders, highlighting the country’s capability and readiness as an international cricket host.

On November 9, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the ICC that the Indian government had advised against sending the Indian team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, citing political considerations. This decision reflects longstanding tensions between the two countries, which have precluded bilateral cricket matches in either country since 2008. Despite these challenges, Pakistan has visited India multiple times over the past 16 years, including its most recent participation in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.
