OGDCL Discovers New Oil And Gas Reserves In Sindh’s Sanghar District
Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a fresh oil and gas discovery in Sindh’s Sanghar district, a development that could strengthen Pakistan’s domestic energy resources and support efforts to reduce reliance on imported fuel.
In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday, the company said the discovery was made at its exploratory well, Bobi Deep-1, located in the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease area, where OGDCL holds a 100 percent working interest.

According to the company, hydrocarbon reserves were identified after testing the potential of the Lower Goru Formation. A cased-hole Drill Stem Test (DST) conducted at the site produced approximately 2,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) along with 1.1 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD).
OGDCL said the test was carried out using a choke size of 32/64 inch and recorded a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,050 pounds per square inch, indicating promising production potential.
The company further stated that the Bobi Deep-1 well was re-entered on May 3, 2026, and drilled to a total depth of 3,305 metres in the Sembar Formation. The operation was completed using OGDCL’s in-house technical expertise and operational capabilities.
Describing the development as a major milestone, OGDCL said it marks the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Massive Sand play within the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease area. The discovery is expected to improve understanding of the region’s geological potential and reduce exploration risks for similar prospects nearby.
The company noted that the successful find could open new avenues for future exploration and resource development in the surrounding region, potentially leading to additional discoveries.
Pakistan has been striving to increase domestic oil and gas production to address growing energy needs and reduce pressure on foreign exchange reserves caused by energy imports. OGDCL said the latest discovery is expected to contribute towards narrowing the country’s energy demand-supply gap while enhancing both national hydrocarbon reserves and the company’s resource base.
