Trump Says US-Iran Talks Showing Progress, Warns Military Strikes Could Resume if Diplomacy Fails

US President Donald Trump has said that negotiations with Iran are moving in a positive direction, but warned that Washington is prepared to restart military action if diplomatic efforts fail.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said he believes there is a strong possibility that the ongoing talks with Iran will produce a positive result.

“I think there is a good chance that we will see positive progress,” Trump said. “If that happens, it will be great. But if it doesn’t, we will do what we had been doing until just a couple of days ago,” he added, indicating that the United States could resume airstrikes against Iran.
During a separate address in the US state of Michigan, Trump claimed that recent American military operations had caused extensive damage to Iran’s military infrastructure. According to him, the United States had destroyed key elements of Iran’s navy, air force, senior military leadership and air defence systems.
Trump also claimed that Iran’s drone production capability has been reduced to only seven percent of its previous capacity. He further alleged that the United States had destroyed most of Iran’s missile manufacturing capability.
The US president said Iran is now willing to negotiate because of the pressure created by recent American military action. He argued that without those operations, talks between the two countries would not have been possible.
Trump also described the US naval blockade against Iran as highly effective, claiming that it has prevented ships from entering the country. He alleged that Tehran is asking Washington to lift the blockade, saying Iran wants an end to the restrictions on maritime access.
