NUST Shines Again: Ranks Among World’s Top 400 Universities in QS 2026

The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) has held firm at 371st position in the latest QS World University Rankings 2026, keeping it among the world’s most prestigious 400 institutions. It is one of only two Pakistani universities to feature in this exclusive band, further establishing its presence on the global academic stage.

The QS ranking evaluates more than 1,500 universities across 100 countries using a range of performance indicators, including academic and employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, research output (citations per faculty), internationalisation, and sustainability efforts. NUST’s consistent placement reflects its strengths in academic excellence, impactful research, and international collaboration.

Leading the national ranking landscape, Quaid‑e‑Azam University, Islamabad holds the top spot in Pakistan at 354th globally. Following NUST, two more Pakistani universities—University of the Punjab and Lahore University of Management Sciences—are also ranked, at 542nd and 555th respectively.

Overall, 18 Pakistani universities earned places in the QS 2026 rankings, showcasing the country’s advancing education standards, research capabilities, and global visibility. Other notable institutions making the list include the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (654), COMSATS University Islamabad (664), Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) (ranked between 721–730), UET Lahore (801–850), the University of Peshawar (901–950), and The University of Lahore (951–1000).

Further down the rankings are Aga Khan University and the University of Karachi (1001–1200), Bahauddin Zakariya University, International Islamic University Islamabad, Riphah International University, and University of Management and Technology (1201–1400). The Islamia University of Bahawalpur appears in the 1401+ group.
