KP Chief Minister Seeks Court Permission To Meet Imran Khan Before Budget

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking permission to meet former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan ahead of the presentation of the provincial budget for the next fiscal year.

Speaking to reporters outside the IHC on Wednesday alongside KP Finance Adviser Muzammil Aslam, Afridi said the provincial budget had been prepared and required Imran Khan’s final approval before being presented.

The chief minister said consultation with the PTI founder was necessary because the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had given their mandate to his party. He added that discussions with Khan were important on key financial and policy matters related to the upcoming budget.

Afridi also criticised the federal government, alleging that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was being deprived of its rightful share of resources. He claimed the province was facing discrimination because of its political support for the PTI founder.

The KP chief minister further expressed concerns over federal development allocations, saying the province had been overlooked in the previous federal budget and Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

He announced that PTI would stage a protest outside Parliament during the federal budget session, which is scheduled to begin on June 10. Afridi reiterated that, as chief minister, he was fully authorised to make decisions on behalf of the provincial government while continuing consultations with the party leadership on major policy issues.

The development comes as provinces finalize their budget proposals for the 2026-27 fiscal year ahead of the federal budget presentation on June 10. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to unveil its own budget shortly after the federal government’s financial plan is announced.
