Federal Budget 2026-27 To Be Presented On June 10 After Govt-PPP Agreement

A deadlock over the timing and priorities of the federal budget has been resolved after successful negotiations between the federal government and its key coalition partner, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), clearing the way for the presentation of the Federal Budget 2026-27 on June 10.

According to reports, a government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held detailed discussions with a PPP team in Islamabad. Following the meeting, both sides reached consensus on a number of proposals, which have been forwarded to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final review and approval.
The talks focused on key economic targets and fiscal priorities for the upcoming financial year. Participants discussed current and development expenditures, including allocations under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), which remains a central component of the government’s growth strategy.
Broader economic issues also came under discussion, including fiscal stability, public welfare initiatives, development projects and measures aimed at supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Sources familiar with the meeting said there was unanimous agreement that the federal budget should be presented on June 10, ending uncertainty regarding the budget schedule and allowing the government to move ahead with final preparations.
The consultation was attended by several senior PPP leaders, including Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman and Saleem Mandviwalla. Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro also participated in the discussions.
Representing the federal government were Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa. Senior economic officials, including Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal and Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, were also present.
The latest meeting is part of ongoing consultations between the government and coalition partners as authorities finalize economic policies, revenue measures and spending priorities ahead of the budget announcement.
The agreement is being viewed as an important step toward maintaining coalition unity and ensuring smooth passage of the federal budget, which is expected to outline the government’s plans for economic growth, fiscal management and public welfare during the 2026-27 financial year.
