Two-Day Holiday Announced Ahead Of Gilgit-Baltistan Elections

• Government schools and colleges to remain closed on Friday and Saturday
• Election campaign enters final phase across Gilgit-Baltistan
• Major political leaders intensify efforts ahead of polling day

Authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan have announced a two-day closure of government schools and colleges as preparations for the region’s upcoming elections enter the final stage.

According to official reports, all government educational institutions across Baltistan will remain closed on Friday and Saturday to facilitate election-related activities, administrative arrangements and polling preparations.

The announcement comes as political campaigning reaches its peak, with candidates and political parties intensifying efforts to secure voter support before the campaign period ends.

Across Skardu and other districts, election contenders have stepped up public meetings, corner gatherings and voter outreach campaigns in a bid to strengthen their positions ahead of polling day.

Several prominent national political figures have also joined the campaign trail. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif is actively participating in election activities, while Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari are campaigning in support of PPP candidates.

Adding further attention to the contest, former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Siraj-ul-Haq is also in the electoral race, making the election one of the most closely watched political events in the region.

Officials said the temporary closure of educational institutions will help ensure smooth logistical arrangements and administrative coordination ahead of the vote.

The election campaign is scheduled to conclude tomorrow night, after which candidates and political parties will no longer be allowed to conduct public campaigning under election rules.
