The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a review petition filed by Zahir Jaffer and upheld its earlier verdict maintaining the death sentence awarded to him in the Noor Mukadam murder case, bringing another significant development in one of Pakistan’s most high-profile criminal cases.
A three-member bench comprising Justice Hashim Khan Kakar, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim heard the review petition. After listening to arguments from both sides, the bench reserved its decision and later announced that the petition had been rejected.

The review petition challenged the Supreme Court’s May 20, 2025 judgment, which had upheld Zahir Jaffer’s death sentence for the murder of Noor Mukadam.
The case attracted nationwide attention in July 2021 when Noor Mukadam, the 27-year-old daughter of a former Pakistani ambassador, was found murdered at a residence in Islamabad’s Sector F-7/4.
According to investigators and court findings, Noor repeatedly attempted to escape on the night of the incident but was prevented from leaving by two members of the household staff. The accused later subjected her to severe violence and torture before killing her. The original FIR stated that she was murdered and beheaded with a sharp-edged weapon.
Zahir Jaffer was arrested from the crime scene shortly after the incident, and a case was registered on the complaint of Noor’s father the same day.
In February 2022, a district and sessions court sentenced Jaffer to death for the murder. The court also handed him a 25-year prison sentence with hard labour and imposed a fine of Rs200,000. The trial lasted more than four months before the verdict was announced.
The court also sentenced two domestic employees, Iftikhar and Jameel, to 10 years in prison each for their role in the case. Meanwhile, several other accused, including Jaffer’s parents and employees of TherapyWorks, were acquitted.
In March 2023, the Islamabad High Court upheld the murder conviction and death sentence. The high court also converted Jaffer’s 25-year sentence in the rape case into an additional death penalty after hearing appeals against the trial court’s verdict.
Zahir Jaffer later challenged the Islamabad High Court decision in the Supreme Court. However, in May 2025, the apex court upheld his death sentence for the murder of Noor Mukadam.
