Punjab Braces For Rain, Strong Winds And Hailstorms As PDMA Issues Province-Wide Alert

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast widespread rain, strong winds and hailstorms across most parts of the province from June 3 to June 5, prompting authorities to issue alerts and emergency preparedness instructions to district administrations.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, the weather system is expected to affect a large number of districts, bringing rainfall, gusty winds and the possibility of hailstorms in several regions. The authority has warned that the changing weather conditions could lead to localized disruptions and has urged citizens to take precautionary measures.

Rainfall is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Layyah, Faisalabad, Jhang, Okara, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Khushab and Mandi Bahauddin. The forecast also includes Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal and surrounding areas, where thunderstorms and strong winds are likely during the period.

PDMA Director General Umar Javed said emergency alerts have been issued to commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. District administrations have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure readiness to respond to any weather-related emergencies.

The authority has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during thunderstorms and lightning. People have been urged to stay in safe locations, avoid open fields and refrain from taking shelter under trees during severe weather conditions, as lightning strikes can pose a significant risk.

Farmers have also been advised to take precautionary measures to protect crops and agricultural activities from potential damage caused by heavy rain, strong winds or hail. The PDMA noted that timely preparations could help minimize losses in affected farming areas.

Tourists planning to visit northern and hilly regions have been urged to exercise caution, monitor weather updates and follow instructions issued by local authorities before travelling.

The PDMA emphasized that all relevant departments have been placed on alert to deal with any emergency situation that may arise due to the expected weather system. Citizens have been encouraged to stay informed through official weather advisories and contact the PDMA helpline at 1129 in the event of an emergency.

Officials said the authority will continue monitoring the weather situation closely and coordinate with local administrations to ensure public safety during the forecast period.
