PTI, JUI and Allies Agree on Joint Parliamentary Strategy Against Government

• United opposition agrees to maintain a common position on major national and parliamentary issues.
• Alliance plans to challenge the government over inflation, unemployment, fuel prices and rising utility bills.
• PTI, JUI, MWM, PKMAP and Sunni Ittehad Council are part of the opposition alliance.

Pakistan’s major opposition parties have agreed to adopt a unified parliamentary strategy, pledging to jointly challenge the government over inflation, unemployment, petroleum prices, rising utility bills and other issues affecting the public.

The agreement was reached during the first joint meeting of parliamentary parties forming the united opposition alliance, bringing together PTI, JUI, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) and the Sunni Ittehad Council.

According to sources, representatives of the participating parties expressed support for the alliance and welcomed JUI’s inclusion in the opposition bloc. The parties agreed to maintain a common position on major national issues and coordinate their approach inside parliament.

Under the agreed strategy, decisions on whether to support or oppose parliamentary business will be taken collectively rather than by individual parties. The opposition also plans to intensify parliamentary pressure on the government over economic challenges faced by the public.

Speaking to the media after the meeting alongside JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other opposition leaders, Mahmood Khan Achakzai described the development as a moment of “joy and congratulations.”

Achakzai said the opposition parties had united in pursuit of an independent judiciary and the strengthening of Pakistan’s democratic system. He said that amid what he described as a suffocating political environment, the opposition had agreed to work for constitutional change.

He expressed hope that the joint political effort would contribute to building a respectable and democratic Pakistan and help restore what he described as the country’s lost glory.

Achakzai also highlighted growing unemployment and the loss of lives in the country as serious concerns requiring political attention.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, meanwhile, said the opposition parties had agreed that important matters would be addressed through consultation and consensus.

Commenting on the prevailing law and order situation, the JUI chief said the country’s internal weaknesses could no longer be hidden and that there was a need to assess Pakistan’s current position and standing.

Fazlur Rehman also voiced concern over proposals related to the creation or division of provinces. He argued that the country currently lacked the appropriate environment and necessary preparation for taking such major steps, particularly at a time when it was already facing significant challenges.

The united opposition has identified economic pressures on ordinary citizens as a major focus of its parliamentary campaign. Inflation, unemployment, petroleum prices and increasing utility bills are among the issues the alliance intends to raise collectively in parliament.
