Murder case filed against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and PTI leaders over rangers’ deaths

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, along with his wife Bushra Bibi and several senior party leaders, has been named in a murder case over the deaths of three Rangers personnel during the party’s protest in Islamabad on November 24.
An FIR was registered at Islamabad’s Ramna Police Station, alleging that the deaths occurred as part of a “planned conspiracy” orchestrated at Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan has been incarcerated for over a year. The report claims that the incident was carried out “at the behest of the PTI founder,” citing inmates and undercover police personnel as witnesses to the alleged plot.

The FIR also names Bushra Bibi and other PTI leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Omar Ayub Khan, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Salman Akram Raja, Murad Saeed, Zulfi Bukhari, Raoof Hasan, and Hammad Azhar. It accuses them of inciting mutiny against the government and armed forces through a video message, which allegedly fueled the violent protest.
The protest, described as a “do-or-die” rally aimed at securing Imran Khan’s release, turned violent when clashes erupted between law enforcers and protesters. According to the FIR, a vehicle driven by an unidentified individual rammed into three Rangers personnel performing security duties, resulting in their deaths. The case has been filed under terrorism charges and ten sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The government and PTI have exchanged blame for the violence. The PTI claims that at least 12 of its workers were killed, and over 1,000 were arrested during the protest. However, the government denies using live ammunition and asserts that four law enforcement personnel, including three Rangers and one police officer, were martyred during the clashes.
The protest, which began with calls for Imran Khan’s release, ended abruptly following a government crackdown. The incident has further escalated tensions between the PTI and the coalition government, adding another layer of legal and political challenges for the former ruling party.
