Govt Launches Junior Cyber Defender Programme For Children

• New cyber security programme targets children aged 7 to 14
• Training focuses on online safety, privacy and cyber threats
• Participants to receive official National CERT certificates

The government has launched a new initiative aimed at improving cyber safety among children by introducing digital security education at an early age.

The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) has unveiled the Junior Cyber Defender Programme, a specialized training initiative designed for children between the ages of seven and 14.

Officials said the programme is intended to equip young participants with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly while protecting themselves from growing online threats.

Under the training programme, children will learn how to identify cyber risks, protect their personal information and respond appropriately to potential online dangers. The course has been developed to help young internet users understand common cyber threats and adopt safe online practices.

The curriculum also covers the responsible use of social media platforms and provides guidance on online gaming, enabling children to enjoy digital activities while remaining aware of security and privacy concerns.

According to officials, the initiative reflects growing recognition of the need for cyber awareness among children as internet access and digital engagement continue to expand across the country.

The programme is expected to help students develop essential digital literacy skills and encourage safer online behaviour from an early age.

Children who successfully complete the Junior Cyber Defender Programme will be awarded an official certificate issued by National CERT, recognizing their participation and understanding of cyber safety principles.

Authorities hope the initiative will contribute to building a more cyber-aware generation capable of protecting itself against online scams, privacy breaches and other digital threats.
