UHS approves PhD Nursing programme to strengthen advanced nursing education

The Special Advisory Committee of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) has approved the syllabus for a new PhD Nursing programme aimed at expanding opportunities for advanced education, research, and leadership within Pakistan’s nursing sector.

According to details, the inaugural batch of the programme will offer 20 seats. Candidates will be required to secure at least 75 per cent marks to qualify for the entry test.

The University of Health Sciences is expected to issue the admission advertisement during the first week of July 2026.

The PhD Nursing programme is designed to develop highly qualified nursing professionals with expertise in teaching, research, healthcare management, and policy development. It is intended to strengthen the capacity of the healthcare system by producing nursing scholars and leaders.

UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore said the healthcare sector requires highly skilled and specialised nursing professionals to meet evolving medical needs.

Director General Nursing Punjab Tahira Parveen said the launch of the programme would create new opportunities for higher education and professional growth in the nursing field.

It is important to note that a PhD in Nursing does not qualify nurses to practise as medical doctors. Instead, it enables them to earn a doctoral-level academic qualification and pursue careers in research, education, leadership, and advanced nursing practice.
