More than a decade after the success of Humsafar, Mahira Khan has reflected on her memorable role as Khirad, sharing how the character helped shape her early acting career.
In a recently resurfaced video, Mahira recalled that she was still new to the industry when she was cast in Humsafar. She revealed that director Sarmad Khoosat gave her a simple piece of advice that became the foundation of her performance.

According to Mahira, Sarmad told her not to focus too much on acting techniques and instead deliver every dialogue with honesty, as if she were truly Khirad. She said that advice helped her connect naturally with the character.
The actress also shared a moment that changed her understanding of the role. During filming, Sarmad asked if she knew the meaning of the name “Khirad.” When she replied that she did not, he explained that the word is associated with wisdom and intellect, a concept often found in Allama Iqbal’s poetry.
Mahira said that learning the meaning of Khirad’s name helped her better understand the character’s personality and gave her a clearer direction for portraying the role on screen. From that point onward, she felt a deeper connection with the character.
