Pakistan Bars Entry on Expired NICOP Under New Travel Rules

Pakistan has introduced new travel rules requiring overseas Pakistanis to hold a valid National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) if they wish to enter the country without a visa.
Under the updated policy, travellers using foreign passports can continue to enter Pakistan visa-free only if their NICOP is valid. Those carrying an expired, invalid or cancelled NICOP will not be allowed to travel under the visa-free facility and must first obtain a valid Pakistani visa.

The new instructions apply to passengers travelling from all countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East and other international destinations.
Airlines have been directed to verify passengers’ travel documents before boarding. Passengers who do not have a valid NICOP, a valid Pakistani passport or a valid Pakistani visa will not be allowed to board flights to Pakistan.
Authorities have also instructed immigration officials to strictly enforce the new policy. Travellers arriving without the required documents may be denied entry and returned on the next available flight.
Officials said the move is aimed at strengthening immigration procedures and ending the previous practice under which some passengers travelled using expired NICOPs or renewal application receipts.
There is no change for overseas Pakistanis who hold a valid NICOP. They can continue to travel to Pakistan on their foreign passports without obtaining a visa.
