Pakistan and Saudi Arabia join forces to tackle drug trafficking with cutting-edge technology

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia marked a significant step forward in bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to combat drug trafficking and enhance public security. The visit included key meetings and inspections of advanced security systems, highlighting both nations’ commitment to tackling transnational challenges through shared expertise and modern technology.

During his visit to the Saudi Anti-Narcotics Headquarters, Naqvi was received by Major General Muhammad Al-Qarni, Director General of Saudi Anti-Narcotics. The discussions revolved around enhancing bilateral collaboration to combat drug trafficking and implementing more effective measures under a shared framework.

Saudi Arabia offered Pakistan state-of-the-art drug detection equipment, reinforcing its commitment to help Pakistan strengthen its anti-narcotics efforts. Naqvi emphasized the importance of joint initiatives, stating, “No country can tackle the menace of drugs alone; it has become a shared global challenge. Pakistan will continue its cooperation with Saudi Arabia to create a drug-free environment for future generations.”

The ongoing coordination between Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Narcotics Department and Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has already yielded results, including the recent arrest of two drug suspects in Pakistan based on Saudi intelligence.

Minister Naqvi also visited Saudi Arabia’s Public Security Police Headquarters, where he was welcomed by Chief of Public Security Lt. Gen. Mohammed AlBassami. He inspected various departments of the advanced Public Security Headquarters and visited Saudi Arabia’s Safe City Center.

Naqvi praised the cutting-edge crime prevention systems, particularly the use of artificial intelligence to control crimes and traffic accidents. During the meeting with Lt. Gen. AlBassami, both sides agreed to activate a joint task force soon, aimed at strengthening cooperation in security operations and police training.

Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s initiative to establish a Special Protection Unit for the security of diplomats and suggested that both nations could benefit from sharing expertise in policing and crime prevention. A briefing at the Public Security Headquarters informed Naqvi about the deployment of special forces during Hajj and Umrah, all of which are controlled centrally from the headquarters.
