ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high alert for landslides and flash floods across Pakistan’s northern regions due to worsening weather conditions, urging tourists to avoid all unnecessary travel to mountainous areas.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), a landslide alert will remain in effect from July 11 to 13, while the risk of flash floods and overflowing streams is expected from July 10 to 14 in the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The authority said the current weather conditions are consistent with its earlier forecast.

The NDMA warned that rising temperatures combined with heavy rainfall could trigger glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), debris flows and severe erosion in local streams. Highly vulnerable areas include Swat, Ishkoman, Hinarche, Tarsat Handor, Altar, Uweer, Chainter, Gupis, Yasin, Roshan, Hakis, Chatiboi, Thulo-1 and Thulo-2, Reshun, Brep, Booni, Sardar Gol, Panduro Chaat, Khaplu, Hispar-Hoper, Ghulkin, Gultang and surrounding regions.
The authority also warned of a significant risk of landslides and falling rocks in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Murree, Mansehra, Abbottabad and along the Karakoram Highway. The Jaglot–Skardu Road, Hunza–Gojal Road, and routes connecting Gilgit with Ghizer, Naltar, Bagrot and Haramosh have been identified among the most landslide-prone areas.
The NDMA has directed local administrations to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness for any emergency situation. Residents and travellers have been advised to stay away from glacier valleys, rivers, streams and flood-prone routes, exercise extreme caution near unstable slopes, and follow verified updates and safety advisories through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App.
