Middle East tensions have escalated further after the Saudi-led coalition launched airstrikes on Houthi military positions in Yemen’s western Al Hudaydah Governorate, following recent threats by the Iran-backed Houthis to impose a naval blockade and attacks on Saudi oil tankers.
According to the Saudi-led coalition, the operation targeted military sites linked to the Houthi movement in Al Hudaydah and Kamaran Island in the Red Sea. The coalition said the strikes were directed at military objectives and confirmed that Al Hudaydah Port itself was not targeted.

Reports said telecommunications infrastructure in Al Hudaydah city was also hit during the air raids. Yemeni media claimed Saudi warplanes carried out multiple strikes on the coastal city as well as Kamaran Island.
The Saudi-led coalition stated that the operation was aimed at countering threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea and ensuring the safety of international maritime traffic. It stressed that all ports remain open for navigation and that efforts to protect ships and maritime routes will continue.
Coalition officials warned that if the Houthis continue attacks against commercial vessels and maritime interests, further military action will be taken in response.
The latest strikes come days after the Houthi movement, Ansar Allah, announced plans to enforce a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia. The group also claimed responsibility for attacks on two Saudi oil tankers, which reportedly caught fire during the assault.
Following those attacks, Saudi Arabia had warned that it would respond with force to any continued threats against its security and international shipping. The latest airstrikes mark the coalition’s military response to those developments.
The escalation raises fresh concerns over regional stability, with observers warning that continued hostilities in the Red Sea could further disrupt international shipping and heighten tensions across the Middle East.
