PTA Invites Applications for Multiband Spectrum Auction to Roll Out 5G

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has invited applications from local and foreign companies for participation in a multiband spectrum auction, marking a key step toward the allocation of 5G spectrum in the country.

According to details shared on Monday, the auction will focus on assigning spectrum for technology-neutral 5G services across multiple frequency bands. The authority has sought applications for the 700 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands, which are considered important for wide coverage and improved network capacity.

In addition, applications have also been invited for the 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz bands, which are widely used internationally for high-speed 5G services and enhanced data performance. The inclusion of these bands is expected to support both coverage expansion and capacity requirements as demand for advanced mobile services grows in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said that successful bidders will be awarded spectrum along with operating licences. The licences will be issued in line with the Information Memorandum, which outlines auction rules, spectrum details and licensing conditions.

The authority added that the Information Memorandum is available on the PTA and Public Procurement Regulatory Authority websites, allowing interested companies to review the complete framework before submitting their applications. The multiband auction is being viewed as a major milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to introduce 5G services and modernise its telecommunications infrastructure.
