Pakistan, Seven Muslim Nations Condemn Israeli Settler Incursions Into Al-Aqsa Mosque

Pakistan and seven other Muslim-majority countries have strongly condemned recent incursions by Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem, warning that such actions threaten the historical and legal status of one of Islam’s holiest sites.

In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Türkiye, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates denounced what they described as repeated provocations by extremist Israeli settlers entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, also known as Al-Haram Al-Sharif, under the protection of Israeli security forces.

The ministers specifically criticized reports of Israeli flags being raised within the mosque’s courtyards, calling the actions provocative, unacceptable and a violation of international law.

According to the statement, the incidents represent a clear breach of relevant United Nations resolutions and the long-standing historical and legal status quo governing the holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem. The eight countries urged the international community to take serious notice of developments at the site and prevent further escalation.

The foreign ministers also condemned what they described as ongoing Israeli measures aimed at changing the historical, legal and demographic character of occupied East Jerusalem. They warned that continued actions targeting the city’s Islamic and Christian holy sites could further inflame tensions across the region.

Al-Aqsa Mosque holds profound religious significance for Muslims worldwide and is regarded as Islam’s third-holiest site after Makkah and Madinah. The compound has long been a focal point of tensions between Palestinians and Israelis, with disputes over access, security arrangements and sovereignty frequently triggering regional and international concern.

Jordan, which serves as the custodian of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem through the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf, has repeatedly emphasized the need to preserve the status quo at Al-Aqsa. International organizations, including the United Nations and several foreign governments, have also previously expressed concern over actions that could alter existing arrangements at the site.
