Punjab Sets August 26 Deadline for Arms Dealers to Digitize Inventory

  • Punjab makes digital inventory records mandatory for all arms dealers.
  • Dealers must upload complete details of their existing stock by August 26.
  • Records of firearms, ammunition and all purchases and sales will be maintained online.
  • The system has been introduced under the Punjab government’s drive against illegal weapons.

The Punjab government has imposed new requirements on arms dealers across the province, making it mandatory for them to maintain digital records of their entire inventory and setting August 26 as the deadline for uploading existing stock details.

According to the Punjab Home Department, the initiative has been introduced under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of creating a safer Punjab and curbing the presence and circulation of illegal weapons.

The department has introduced an inventory module for business arms licence holders across Punjab. Under the new system, all licensed arms dealers will be required to record their available stock as well as details of every purchase and sale through the department’s online portal.

The digital system will maintain comprehensive records of firearms, ammunition and other weapons held by individual arms dealers. Transactions involving the purchase and sale of weapons will also be recorded digitally, allowing the authorities to maintain updated information about arms inventories and transactions across the province.

The Punjab Home Department has directed all arms dealers to upload complete details of their current stock to the online portal by August 26.

The move is aimed at strengthening oversight of the licensed arms business and improving the government’s ability to maintain centralized records of weapons and ammunition being stocked and traded by authorized dealers in Punjab.
