Pakistan, Australia Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Defence Cooperation

Chief of the Australian Army, Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, with both sides reaffirming their dedication to bolstering defence and security ties.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a statement following the meeting, noting that the two military leaders engaged in discussions on shared interests, focusing on regional and global security challenges. COAS Munir expressed Pakistan’s appreciation for its relationship with Australia, emphasizing the critical role of strong bilateral ties in fostering regional peace and stability.

Both generals pledged to deepen cooperation in defence and security, underscoring the importance of ongoing collaboration to support peace efforts on both regional and international fronts, according to the ISPR statement.

Lieutenant General Stuart commended Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to counter terrorism, voicing his commitment to strengthening bilateral defence relations. Upon his arrival at Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ), he honored Pakistan’s fallen soldiers by laying a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada, where he was greeted with a formal guard of honour by a Pakistan Army contingent.

This visit follows a similar high-level meeting in August, when General Li Qiaoming, Commander of the People’s Liberation Army Ground Forces, praised Pakistan’s dedication to combating terrorism and extremism in his discussion with COAS Munir. The meeting offered a platform for comprehensive talks on regional security, military training, and enhanced defence cooperation between China and Pakistan.
