According to the National Emergency Operations Centre of the NDMA, several districts of Punjab are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain. The affected areas include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha and surrounding districts.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, weather authorities have forecast rain and thunderstorms in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Malakand and nearby regions.
The alert also covers Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where districts including Skardu, Hunza, Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad are likely to receive rainfall along with thunderstorms and possible hailstorms.
The NDMA warned that strong winds and hailstorms could damage vulnerable buildings, temporary structures, electricity installations and other infrastructure in affected areas.
Authorities have expressed particular concern about the northern regions, where heavy rainfall could increase the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), landslides and rising water levels in rivers and streams.
The agency cautioned that landslides may affect major transportation routes, including the Karakoram Highway, Naran Road, Skardu Road and other key connecting highways. Such disruptions could impact tourism and travel activities during the holiday season.
Tourists, commuters and residents planning to visit northern areas have been advised to monitor weather forecasts and road conditions before travelling.
The NDMA has urged the public to remain vigilant and stay informed through its official “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile application for real-time updates and emergency information.
Provincial and district administrations have also been directed to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures to respond quickly to any weather-related emergencies that may arise during the forecast period.
