Nawaz Sharif Cleared To Campaign In Gilgit-Baltistan Ahead Of Elections
- The Election Commission has issued an NOC allowing Nawaz Sharif to campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan.
- The PML-N president is scheduled to visit the region on June 2 for election activities.
- The approval comes amid political controversy over recent allegations involving PTI campaign workers.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted a no-objection certificate (NOC) to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, allowing him to visit Gilgit-Baltistan and participate in election campaign activities ahead of the upcoming regional polls.
According to official sources, the former prime minister is scheduled to arrive in Gilgit-Baltistan on June 2 as part of the PML-N’s election campaign. The permission was formally approved by the Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan following a request submitted by the party.

Election authorities stated that the approval has been granted subject to strict compliance with the election code of conduct. Officials warned that any violation of election laws or campaign regulations could result in legal action.
The visit is expected to strengthen the PML-N’s election campaign efforts as political parties intensify their activities ahead of the Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
The development comes against the backdrop of recent political tensions surrounding election campaigning in the region. Days earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) alleged that its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president and Member of the National Assembly, Junaid Akbar, was detained and subsequently expelled from Gilgit-Baltistan while campaigning for the June 7 elections.
PTI claimed that Akbar and several party leaders were stopped at a checkpoint, detained and removed from the region. However, Gilgit-Baltistan authorities rejected claims of formal arrests, maintaining that the action was taken due to alleged violations of the election code of conduct.
The incident sparked political controversy, with PTI accusing authorities of creating obstacles for opposition election campaigns ahead of the polls.
With Nawaz Sharif now cleared to enter the region for campaign activities, political competition in Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to intensify as major parties seek voter support before election day. The Election Commission has reiterated that all political parties and candidates must adhere to the prescribed code of conduct to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
