KP government launches four youth skill development and employment programs

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has unveiled four ambitious programs aimed at equipping the province’s youth with modern technical skills and creating employment opportunities. The initiatives, managed by the KP Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), were inaugurated at a ceremony attended by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.

The Rs. 4 billion Ehsaas Hunar Program, implemented through Akhuwat Microfinance, will provide interest-free loans of up to Rs. 500,000 to skilled youth to help them start their own businesses. With Rs. 2 billion allocated for the current fiscal year, the program aims to benefit over 35,000 skilled individuals, fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

The RETP, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the European Union at an estimated cost of Rs. 11.4 billion, focuses on empowering rural communities. The program will offer free technical and vocational training to 60,000 men and women in rural areas. Additionally, 42,000 skilled individuals will receive financial assistance averaging $300 to support self-employment, while 25,000 graduates will benefit from internships and job placement support.

In partnership with GIZ and the European Union, the KP government plans to upgrade key institutions such as the Government College of Technology in Nowshera and Abbottabad into Centers of Excellence. Twenty-two technical institutes across various districts will be transformed into model institutions, while nine will be elevated to DAE Level-5, ensuring high-quality technical education across the province.

The Rs. 177 million On-Job Training Program is designed to provide industry exposure to over 3,000 youth through phased training. In the initial phase, 168 trainees will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 for three months, with a budget of Rs. 7.56 million allocated for this phase.
