Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Expands Free Wi-Fi Initiative to City Parks and Recreation Spots

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has unveiled plans to extend free Wi-Fi services to several parks and recreational areas across the city, following the inauguration of the facility at Frere Hall. Speaking at the launch event, Wahab highlighted the significance of internet access for visitors, enabling them to connect with ease and enjoy their time at the iconic location.

The mayor announced that similar services would soon be available at popular parks, including Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, Kidney Hill Park, Hill Park, and Safari Park, ensuring more residents and visitors can benefit from the initiative. Wahab emphasized that these enhancements aim to elevate the recreational experience for Karachi’s lower and middle-class communities.

In addition to internet access, Wahab called for the establishment of restaurants, IT hubs, and other amenities within major parks to make them more vibrant spaces for families and individuals. Drawing a comparison with private clubs like the Gymkhana, he advocated for equitable recreational opportunities for all socioeconomic groups.

Wahab also shared updates on cultural initiatives at Frere Hall, including the air-conditioning of the library and upcoming classes in traditional musical instruments such as the tabla, piano, and sitar. Other planned activities include calligraphy and painting workshops, reflecting the region’s rich artistic heritage. The Sadequain Gallery will host calligraphy classes to make meaningful use of the space, he noted.

When questioned about the technical aspects, Wahab confirmed that the Wi-Fi at Frere Hall would be operational around the clock, accommodating up to 2,000 users simultaneously. He also revealed plans to organize traditional music performances at the venue, aiming to enrich visitors’ experiences with cultural entertainment.
