Imran Khan Files Supreme Court Petition Alleging Rights Violations Against PTI
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has submitted a constitutional petition to the Supreme Court, seeking judicial intervention over alleged infringements on PTI’s fundamental rights. The petition, filed on Thursday, accuses the federal and provincial governments of systematically targeting PTI through restrictive measures and requests a judicial inquiry into these actions, led by three senior Supreme Court judges.
Khan’s petition specifically names the federal government, Ministries of Defense, Interior, and Cabinet Division, as well as all four provincial governments as respondents. The petition calls for the Supreme Court to uphold PTI’s rights by curbing the alleged misuse of Section 144, which restricts public gatherings, and by preventing arrests under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance. Additionally, Khan is requesting the court to mandate the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for PTI’s public rallies, ensuring the party’s ability to hold political events without obstruction.

This legal appeal to the Supreme Court follows PTI’s recent claims of increasing crackdowns on its political activities, citing repeated arrests and suppression of rallies. The petition argues that such measures infringe upon PTI’s constitutional rights to assembly and political expression.
The Supreme Court’s constitutional bench, established under the 26th Constitutional Amendment, will review the petition. Notably, this bench previously dismissed a review petition that challenged the appointment of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa as Balochistan High Court Chief Justice. During that hearing, Justice Jamal Mandokhail highlighted the procedural limits of a review, while Justice Musarrat Hilali emphasized adherence to the law without political bias.
