Faiz Hameed’s indictment a ‘historic’ move, says senator Faisal Vawda

Senator Faisal Vawda has termed the indictment of retired Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, former ISI director general, on charges of political involvement and abuse of power as a “historic” development for Pakistan. Speaking in interviews with various news outlets, the former federal minister highlighted the significance of the move, suggesting it signals a turning point in the country’s accountability process.
Vawda claimed that the indictment of Faiz Hameed would exacerbate the challenges faced by PTI founder Imran Khan, who has been in jail for over a year on multiple charges. He alleged that Khan had used Hameed as a pawn and described the May 9 unrest as a “pre-planned game” orchestrated for political gains.

The senator speculated that Imran Khan might also face trial in a military court, arguing that it would be consistent for both Hameed and Khan to be judged under similar legal frameworks. He accused Khan of initiating a civil disobedience movement to shield Hameed and suggested that Hameed was now cooperating with authorities by providing evidence against Khan and his supporters.
Praising the military’s accountability system, Vawda emphasized that no one, regardless of their position, would be spared in the pursuit of justice. He called the ongoing process a justified measure to address misconduct, especially within powerful institutions.
Vawda asserted that he had predicted such developments for years, stating that the accountability process was inevitable and overdue. He described the indictment as a landmark event, symbolizing a new era of transparency and justice in Pakistan.
