Pakistan have suffered a major setback ahead of the first Test against the West Indies after top-order batter Abdullah Fazal was ruled out of both the West Indies and England tours due to injury.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Friday that the 23-year-old sustained a lower back injury during a training session at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on July 23.

According to the PCB, an MRI scan and clinical assessment conducted by the medical panel confirmed that Abdullah Fazal will require rehabilitation, ruling him out of Pakistan’s upcoming international assignments.
The board added that his replacement for the squad will be announced in due course.
Before his injury, the left-handed batter featured in the four-day warm-up match against the West Indies Select XI, where he impressed by scoring 50 runs in the first innings and 48 in the second.
According to reports, Abdullah Fazal was expected to take over Saud Shakeel’s position in the batting order following the latter’s prolonged run of poor form.
Abdullah recently made his Test debut during Pakistan’s series against Bangladesh, scoring 141 runs in two matches at an average of 35.25, including two half-centuries.
The first Test of the two-match series between Pakistan and the West Indies will begin on Saturday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, marking the first-ever Test match to be played at the venue.
Pakistan’s squad for the series includes Babar Azam (captain), Aamir Jamal, Ali Usman, Azan Awais, Imam-ul-Haq, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Awais Zafar, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (wicketkeeper), Sajid Khan, Salman Ali Agha, Shan Masood and Ubaid Shah.
