For many young Pakistanis, working at a global technology company like Microsoft is a dream. For Hamza Chishti, that dream became reality after years of hard work, continuous learning, and believing in his abilities. Today, the Lahore-born technology professional is leading AI and cloud computing initiatives at Microsoft while inspiring thousands of aspiring engineers back home.
Hamza grew up in Lahore’s Model Town before later moving to Johar Town. After completing his Computer Science degree from FAST University Lahore, he started his professional journey in investment banking, working in Dubai and London. His career took a major turn in 2017 when Microsoft reached out to him through LinkedIn and offered him an opportunity to interview for the company. That single opportunity changed the course of his life.

His performance at Microsoft quickly earned global recognition. In 2021, Hamza received Microsoft’s prestigious Gold Club Award, an honour presented to only the top 0.1% of performers across the company worldwide. During the same year, he was promoted to the position of Director, marking another major milestone in his career. As artificial intelligence became central to Microsoft’s future, his responsibilities expanded to include both AI and cloud computing solutions for major organisations around the world.
In his role, Hamza works with CEOs and technology leaders from some of the world’s largest companies. His team helps businesses integrate AI into their operations, allowing them to save time, reduce costs, improve productivity and modernise their technology infrastructure through Microsoft’s AI-powered products and services.
Despite reaching one of the highest levels in the technology industry, Hamza says his biggest dream today is not personal success but helping young Pakistanis. He believes that if someone from Lahore can build a global career at Microsoft, many other talented Pakistani students can do the same. His mission is to educate and empower the next generation by sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for them to compete internationally.
Speaking about Microsoft, Hamza noted that while company founder Bill Gates is no longer actively involved in daily operations, the current leadership under CEO Satya Nadella values innovation and sees Pakistan as a growing economy with significant potential.
When asked about salaries in the technology industry, Hamza explained that compensation depends on factors such as experience, job level and company performance. However, he said professionals in similar senior positions can earn between approximately $350,000 and $600,000 annually.
Hamza also highlighted the positive impact artificial intelligence can have across industries. According to him, AI is designed to automate repetitive work, save valuable time and accelerate innovation. He believes sectors including government, healthcare, education, banking and the private industry can all benefit from responsible AI adoption. At the same time, he stressed that AI should be used responsibly, adding that major technology companies continue to develop policies and safeguards to prevent misuse.
Explaining AI in simple terms, Hamza described Large Language Models (LLMs) as systems trained on vast amounts of information that allow applications such as ChatGPT and other AI tools to understand questions and generate responses. He said these systems continue to improve through human interaction and ongoing refinement, making them more accurate over time.
