Water levels in the Chenab River surged on Tuesday after India released water upstream, prompting flood warnings and emergency preparedness measures across several parts of Punjab.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), the flow at Head Marala climbed to 168,478 cusecs, while Head Khanki recorded 125,110 cusecs. At Head Qadirabad, the water discharge reached 114,070 cusecs, where authorities reported low-level flooding.

The impact was also felt along the Ravi River. Officials recorded water flows of 34,000 cusecs at Nullah Aik, 33,000 cusecs at Kot Naina, and 18,483 cusecs at Nullah Dek. The FFD said these locations are currently experiencing moderate flooding.
Authorities said the sharp rise in water levels at multiple points along the Chenab and Ravi rivers followed the upstream release of water from India, increasing the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.
Residents living in low-lying regions have been urged to evacuate without delay, while district administrations and emergency response agencies have been directed to remain on high alert and implement all necessary precautionary measures to deal with any worsening flood situation.
