The division elects 13 members to the 53-seat Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. These seats are spread across three districts: Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber. Mirpur district accounts for four constituencies, Bhimber has three, while Kotli contributes six seats, making the division one of the largest electoral blocs in AJK.

The AJK Legislative Assembly consists of 53 seats, including 45 directly elected members and eight reserved seats for women, technocrats and overseas Kashmiris. A party must ultimately command a majority in the assembly to form the government and elect the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
