Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo has lost his wife and two young children after rescue workers recovered their bodies from the rubble of a collapsed apartment building following the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela earlier this week.
Trejo, 38, had spent more than three days searching for his family after the powerful earthquakes struck the country on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction across several regions. His wife, Yanina Maranella, and their children, Aaron and Ainhoa, were trapped when the residential building where they were staying in Playa Grande collapsed.

The defender was in Caracas preparing for a league match with his club, Deportivo La Guaira, when the earthquakes struck. After losing contact with his family, he appealed on Instagram for information and asked people to pray for their safety.
“Our building in Playa Grande collapsed. I don’t know anything about my family. Please pray for them and share this message in case someone saw them. I want to believe they weren’t there,” Trejo wrote.
Rescue workers continued searching the site for nearly 74 hours before recovering the bodies of his wife and children late Saturday, according to local media reports.
Deportivo La Guaira confirmed the deaths in an official statement and expressed its condolences to the player and his family.
“We join Lucas Trejo in mourning the tragic passing of his wife, Yanina Maranella, and his children, Aaron and Ainhoa Trejo. Peace to their souls and comfort for Lucas and all his loved ones,” the club said.
