Under the project’s first phase, 10,000 electric bikes will be deployed across the provincial capital. To support the service, authorities will establish 300 docking and charging stations at key locations throughout the city.
The initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader strategy to encourage sustainable urban transport and reduce environmental pollution in Lahore, which has long faced challenges related to traffic congestion and smog.
Officials say the e-bike rental service will particularly benefit students, office workers and daily commuters by offering a low-cost alternative for short-distance travel. The project is also expected to strengthen connectivity between residential and commercial areas and major public transport networks.
According to the plan, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) will provide land for the docking and charging stations. Relevant departments, including the Transport Department, Safe City and LePark, will work together on the implementation of the project.
The rental system will operate through a dedicated mobile application, allowing users to locate, rent and return electric bikes conveniently. Authorities believe the app-based model will make the service accessible and user-friendly for a large number of residents.
Government officials said the project is designed to improve last-mile connectivity by helping commuters travel easily between their homes, workplaces and nearby bus or train stations.
Suitable locations for docking stations will be selected across Lahore to ensure broad coverage and smooth access for users throughout the city.
Officials also expect the initiative to deliver environmental benefits. The deployment of 10,000 electric bikes is projected to reduce thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions annually, while also lowering fuel consumption and easing pressure on Lahore’s busy road network.
The Housing Department stated that the project forms part of a wider effort to combat pollution and smog through cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions.
