Punjab launches “Electric Taxi Scheme” to combat pollution and boost employment
The Punjab government has unveiled an innovative e-taxi scheme aimed at reducing air pollution and providing economic opportunities for the unemployed population. The initiative will introduce electric taxis across the province, offering drivers affordable ownership options and environmental benefits.
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan announced that a significant portion of the online taxi fleet will transition to electric vehicles (EVs). Drivers will be able to acquire these EVs through attractive packages, including options for down payments or easy installment plans.

Highlighting the benefits of the scheme, Minister Khan stated, “Electric taxis will not only help curb air pollution but also bring substantial monetary savings for drivers. Studies show that drivers can save up to 40% on fuel costs by switching to electric vehicles.”
The e-taxi initiative addresses the growing demand for online taxi services in Punjab and the urgent need to combat pollution, particularly in urban areas like Lahore, which face severe air quality challenges.
