PCB Likely to Announce T20 Squad This Week for Bangladesh and West Indies Tours

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to unveil the national T20 squad later this week for the upcoming tours of Bangladesh and the West Indies, as preparations intensify ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup.

Pakistan is scheduled to play three T20 Internationals in Bangladesh, followed by a tour of the Caribbean that includes a three-match T20I and ODI series. While the official squad announcement is awaited, sources indicate that no major changes are expected in the T20 lineup.

However, some senior players including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi are likely to be rested for these tours. The selectors appear to be focusing on giving opportunities to emerging talent, with young left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem expected to receive a maiden call-up to the T20 side.

A training camp for the T20 squad is set to begin on July 7 in Karachi as part of the preparations for the twin tours.

Meanwhile, the PCB has proposed a format change to the West Indies Cricket Board, suggesting that the three scheduled ODIs be converted into T20 Internationals. The move is aimed at sharpening the team’s focus on the T20 format ahead of the World Cup. As of now, the West Indies board has not officially responded to the proposal.

If the proposed change is approved, a single combined T20 squad will be announced for both tours. However, if the ODI matches remain on the schedule, the PCB will release additional names specifically for the 50-over format.
