Meta Apps, including Facebook and Instagram, face global outage

Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp, experienced a significant global outage on Wednesday night, leaving thousands of users unable to access their accounts. The disruption was reported across multiple countries, including Pakistan, where Downdetector.com registered numerous complaints.

The outages began around 10:52 pm, with Downdetector recording over 1,200 reports for Instagram and 1,000 for Facebook in Pakistan alone. Additionally, 2,259 users reported issues with WhatsApp. Users on these platforms encountered error messages such as “something went wrong,” while others experienced complete service disruptions.

Acknowledging the issue, Meta issued a statement saying, “We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.” WhatsApp’s team also addressed the situation, stating on X, “We’re aware of some issues accessing WhatsApp. We’re actively working on a solution and starting to see a return to normal for most people. We expect things to be back to normal shortly.”

The company did not provide details about the cause of the outage but assured users that efforts to restore services were underway.

This is not the first time Meta’s platforms have experienced technical difficulties. Earlier this year, a similar outage disrupted Facebook and Instagram globally for more than two hours due to a technical issue. Another outage in October affected the same platforms, but services were largely restored within an hour.
